Two folks stay in custody as police examine a safety alert in Belfast which led to the Irish International Affairs Minister being evacuated from a peace occasion.
On Sunday afternoon, police stated a 41-year-old man had been arrested by police investigating the safety alert on Friday.
The UVF is suspected of involvement within the incident which noticed Simon Coveney being evacuated from an occasion organised by the John and Pat Hume Basis in north Belfast.
The Houben Centre, on the Crumlin Highway, was evacuated and a funeral service at close by Holy Cross church was disrupted.
Police stated the motive force of a van was threatened by two gunmen and compelled to drive a tool which he believed to be a stay bomb to the church.
The Police Service of Northern Eire stated detectives from the Critical Crime Department had arrested the person underneath the Terrorism Act and he was being questioned at Musgrave Critical Crime Suite.
A 38-year-old girl can be being questioned by police in relation to the incident.
On Sunday morning, the PSNI stated the lady had been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm in suspicious circumstances, possessing felony property and concealing felony property.
A spokesperson stated she was in custody aiding police with their inquiries.
It comes after the Critical Crime Department carried out searches within the Ballysillan and Springmartin areas of north and west Belfast on Saturday night.
A suspected firearm, two automobiles, a amount of managed medication and a big sum of money have been seized.
Friday’s incident was condemned by politicians throughout the political spectrum.
Secretary of State Brandon Lewis described the actions as “reprehensible”.
