Britain is deeply involved by loss of life sentences handed down to 2 British males by a courtroom of the Russian-backed Donetsk Individuals’s Republic and can work to attempt to safe their launch, a spokesman for Boris Johnson says.
“We’re clearly deeply involved by this. We’ve stated frequently that prisoners of warfare shouldn’t be exploited for political functions,” the spokesman stated.
“Below the Geneva conference, prisoners of warfare are entitled to combatant immunity, and so they shouldn’t be prosecuted for participation in hostilities.
“So we are going to proceed to work with Ukrainian authorities to try to safe the discharge of any British nationwide who was serving within the Ukrainian Armed Forces and who’re being held as prisoners of warfare.”
Aiden Aslin, 28, from Nottinghamshire, Shaun Pinner, 48, from Bedfordshire, and Saaudun Brahim, from Morocco, who have been captured earlier within the warfare, have been given the loss of life sentences by the courtroom, which isn’t recognised internationally.
The lads’s households deny they’re mercenaries.
International secretary Liz Truss stated: “I totally condemn the sentencing of Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner held by Russian proxies in jap Ukraine.
“They’re prisoners of warfare.
“This can be a sham judgment with completely no legitimacy.
“My ideas are with the households. We proceed to do all the things we will to help them.”
